Join your friends and come hike Flattop Mountain with other UAA students, staff, and faculty! Once you get to the trail "saddle" (the trail saddle is roughly 45 minutes up the mountain, and is the area right after the wooden steps end) enjoy free Flattop Pizza (for students with 6+ credit hours; $5 for other students/staff/faculty). The National Guard will also be teaching folks outdoor skills at the saddle - come learn how to make splints, and other emergency skills!
Participants should go to the Glen Alps Flattop Trailhead. Please note that if you drive to the trailhead yourself, parking costs $5. On average, the entire hike up and down Flattop takes about 2.5 hours to thoroughly enjoy. Pizza will be offered to participants from about 4pm to 6pm, while supplies last.
For a more guided experience, shuttling is provided and will pick folks up at 3pm at Gorsuch Commons. Once shuttled participants get to the Flattop trail entrance, they will go up the mountain with staff and a National Guard medic, Outdoor Recreation Club, and the Delta Chi fraternity. The guided event will take roughly 2.5 hours. At around 6:30pm, UAA staff will return to the base of the mountain and shuttle students home. Water bottles will be supplied to shuttled participants. Pizza and shuttle space is limited so SIGN UP TODAY (please sign up for Shuttling by 9/9 so we can determine shuttle need)!
